o Swimming
o Athletics
o Cross Country
o Netball
o Soccer

When information on the events is available I will put notices in the Newsletter and send notes home with the students who are interested.
There also will be opportunities for students to try out for the Southern District Association teams in various sports and also for State teams. Again, when this information becomes available to me I will inform all eligible via the newsletter and notices home.
I also will be putting up SAPSASA photo displays on the gym windows so feel free to come and have a look after events at some of the photos taken.

Our boys' and girls' Year 6/7 T20 Cricket Teams were invited to compete in a State Wide final at Adelaide Oval on Thursday 20th November. Both teams had won the District Carnival at Encounter Bay so were representing our Southern District. All players had the chance to play on the Adelaide Oval, which was very exciting.
The girls played 3 games, won 1 and were very competitive in their other 2 games, just losing both matches. They finished 11th out of 15 teams.
The boys won all 3 games they played in the minor round and made the Grand Final, which they won in a very close, exciting game. They then had the opportunity to play in the Australia wide final, held at the MCG on Thursday 11th December 2014. An amazing opportunity.
The 9 boys (Matty, Colby, Kane, Che, Mitchell, Harry, Darcy, Liam, Dylan), Jamie Ayris (parent helper and coach), Shelley Nitschke (SACA representative and former Australian Women’s Cricket Vice Captain and International Award winner), and myself had the opportunity to fly to Melbourne, play cricket on the MCG, meet some of the top Australian Women Cricketers and have a quick tour of the Melbourne Sports Museum. Memories that will last with us for a lifetime.
We were picked up at school by a Premier bus at 12 noon on the Wednesday. The passengers on this bus before us were the Indian Cricket Team on their way to Adelaide Oval. The boys remarked that maybe a bus with Premiers written on the front and having International Cricketers on board before us, may have been a very good omen! We then arrived at Adelaide Airport and flew with Qantas to Melbourne Airport.
Once in Melbourne we were guided around the town by Raini Nailer and we got to see Federation Square lit up with lights, Flinders Street Train Station, a Christmas projector display on the Town Hall walls and visit Bourke St Mall to see many Christmas displays. I’d like to thank Raini immensely for this wonderful tour and for her continued support to our school.
The next day we had a buffet breakfast then headed to the MCG. The atmosphere was amazing, and being allowed to walk onto the hallowed turf was such a special experience for us all. We had 5 out of the 9 boys’ families there on the day, and those who could not make the trip across were with us in spirit via texts and phone calls. I’d like to thank very much all parents and families for their support, kind words and encouragement on the day. It was fantastic to have you all there either in person, or in spirit.
We played 3 minor round games and won all 3. During one of these 3 games Colby hit the designated Milo sign which meant he received a cricket bat signed by the Men’s Australian Cricket Team. Congratulations Colby. Also, during these 3 games, Che accidently hit the winner’s trophy which was on display. Again, the boys commented that maybe that meant we get to take the trophy home!
As we waited during the lunch break to find out if we made the Grand Final, Liam had the opportunity to compete against 7 other boys from opposition teams in the Highest Catch Competition. The prize being a cricket bat signed by the Men’s Australian Cricket Team. Liam performed wonderfully and won that competition. Congratulations to Liam.
We made it into the Grand Final, finishing first in the minor round. We played St Paul’s from Brisbane. We fielded first and kept them to a low score. We then went out to bat with a rather low score to achieve, but unfortunately we lost a lot of wickets (every wicket gives the opposition 5 runs). After the last bowl was bowled for the game no one could be sure who had won, as it was a very close game. We had to endure 30 minutes of presentations etc before it was finally announced that we had won by 6 runs!! We were National Champions of the inaugural Milo T20 Cricket Cup.
Congratulations boys on this wonderful achievement. Thanks to Jamie for coaching the boys and to Fraser, Julie, Jaid, Chris, John, Joel, Matt, Greg and Austin for their support on the day.
I would like to thank Shelley Nitschke, SACA and Cricket Australia for giving the boys such an amazing opportunity. Thank you also to my colleagues, students, their parents, supporters and community members for all the support and encouragement.
The support, well wishes and shared celebrations winning the National T20 Cricket Cup has created has been very overwhelming. Thank you to everyone. What a wonderful experience to have shared with so many wonderful people.
Our boys and girls Year 6/7 T20 Cricket teams were invited to compete in a state wide final at Adelaide Oval on Thursday 20th November. Both teams had won the District carnival at Encounter Bay so were representing our Southern District. All players had the chance to play on the Adelaide Oval, which was very exciting.
The day was interrupted by rain, had many delays and eventually the games were modified so the day could be completed.
The girls played 3 games, won 1 and were very competitive in their other 2 games, just losing both matches. They finished 11th out of 15 teams. A great achievement by these girls. Once again, I’d like to express how proud of them I am for their effort, attitude and sportsmanship shown throughout both carnivals and all the practices they did. Thanks again to Kerry for coaching them, Brett and Harry for their help and supervision on the day. Without this adult assistance the teams would not have been able to compete.
The boys won all 3 games they played in the minor round and made the Grand Final on percentage by 2.2 runs!! They played their “match of the carnival” in the Grand Final to win the competition and advance to the Australia wide final, to be held at the MCG on Thursday 11th December. Congratulations boys on this wonderful achievement. Thanks to Jamie for coaching the boys and to Fraser, Chris and John for their support on the day. Also, another special mention to the girls team who watched the Grand Final and cheered the boys on. The atmosphere was amazing.
Also, a special mention to our school for another outstanding sporting achievement. We were one of a few schools across the state who were able to have both their girls and boys teams make the state final. A huge achievement. Very well done.
We wish the boys all the best for the carnival in Melbourne. Go Port Elliot!!
Our school participated in Jump Rope For Heart again this term. The Jump Off Date was Friday 14th of November. All sponsorship forms and monies can be completed online or given to Jo in the front office.
We started the day with a skipping demonstration by students who volunteered and who had been practicing for weeks in their break times. They did a great job and enjoyed the opportunity to show case their talents to the rest of the school. Well done to all. Then each class had a chance to “Jump Off” with another class. This involved 5 stations of skipping activities and 1 rest station. The students cooperated well and enjoyed the opportunity to skip with different aged students to themselves.
Tara Irvin volunteered to coordinate a team of swimmers to compete in this after school hours carnival at Strathalbyn pool on Wednesday 12th November. The boys enjoyed the experience. Thanks to Tara for organising this.
“On Wednesday 12/11 Port Elliot was represented at the Interschool swimming carnival by Dane, Jobe, Connor I and Darcy. They all swam all four events with Connor and Darcy placing in all of their individual age group finals. Darcy finishing with 3 x Gold and 1 x silver in the 12 yr olds and Connor with 3 x Silver and 1 bronze in the 11 yr olds. Dane and Jobe also swam well, with 1 silver each and ribbons for placing in the finals. The highlight of the night was meeting and training with Olympic Swimmer Sally Hunter. Schools from Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Strathalbyn and Mt Barker competed in the comp which was hosted by the Strathalbyn Swim Club.” Tara Irvin

During PE Week the House Captains and myself will be running activities at Recess and Lunch times. Students are invited to wear sports clothing instead of school uniform on the Friday only. In keeping with our approach towards sun safety, no singlets which expose shoulders can be worn. Students may prefer to wear the sports singlet over a school shirt or similar?
Students who wish to wear sports clothes on the Friday are asked to bring a gold coin donation. Money raised will go towards the cancer research fundraiser Iron 5 for $55,000. For more information about this cause refer to:

SACA T20 Cricket Carnival Year 6/7
On Thursday 16th October four teams of eight Year 6/7 students participated in a cricket carnival at Encounter Bay. This is the carnival we have participated in over the past few years known as Super 8’s. Teams from schools from across our district competed on the day.
The students had a very enjoyable experience and conducted themselves in such a way to, once again, make Port Elliot Primary School proud – both with attitude and performance.
There were 5 teams in the girls’ competition and our girls won 3 out of their 4 games, finishing first for the day. Congratulations girls!!
There were 12 teams in the boys competition and we had a team finish 9th, another team finish 3rd and a team finish first!! Congratulations to all the boys!!
The two teams who finished first have been invited to compete in a state wide final at Adelaide Oval on Thursday 20th November. If they manage to win that competition day they may get invited to play in the Australian wide final at the Melbourne Cricket ground!
An exceptionally wonderful experience for these students. Once I receive further information about the Adelaide Oval carnival I will send notes home to the students involved.
Thank you to our parent helpers
and to all our supporters on the day. Without this adult assistance the teams would not have been allowed to compete.
The local District Athletics Day was held at Victor Harbor Primary School on Friday 29th August.

These days cannot go ahead and be successful without many helpers and much organisation. Thank you to Sue, Natalie, Karina and Kristin for your expert assistance, marshalling of all students and assembling and disassembling of the shelter. Your help all day was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to the parents who popped in and out all day to assist and cheer on their children. It was great to see so many people there, encouraging their children and our school.
And a big thank you to the athletes! Our school is very proud of our students, and the way in which these 29 children conducted themselves all day is a credit to them. We had many adults comment positively about our students’ conduct and sportsmanship. As their teacher in charge on the day, I want to say again how impressed and proud of them all I was, both in the way they practiced and prepared on the days leading up to the event, but also on the day. Very, very well done.
Go Port Elliot!!
We entered a Year 5/6 girls’ team and a Year 5/6 boys’ team in a day long Basketball carnival at Morphett Vale on Wednesday 6th August and Thursday 7th August. The teams had practiced during recess and lunch times leading up to the event. Both teams tried really hard and learnt a lot from the experience. The boys’ team came third on the day, narrowly losing to the two top teams.
Thank you to the adults who drove, scored and cheered the students on. These days cannot occur without such valuable volunteers.
Two great days enjoyed by all.
