Our boys and girls Year 6/7 T20 Cricket teams were invited to compete in a state wide final at Adelaide Oval on Thursday 20th November. Both teams had won the District carnival at Encounter Bay so were representing our Southern District. All players had the chance to play on the Adelaide Oval, which was very exciting.
The day was interrupted by rain, had many delays and eventually the games were modified so the day could be completed.
The girls played 3 games, won 1 and were very competitive in their other 2 games, just losing both matches. They finished 11th out of 15 teams. A great achievement by these girls. Once again, I’d like to express how proud of them I am for their effort, attitude and sportsmanship shown throughout both carnivals and all the practices they did. Thanks again to Kerry for coaching them, Brett and Harry for their help and supervision on the day. Without this adult assistance the teams would not have been able to compete.
The boys won all 3 games they played in the minor round and made the Grand Final on percentage by 2.2 runs!! They played their “match of the carnival” in the Grand Final to win the competition and advance to the Australia wide final, to be held at the MCG on Thursday 11th December. Congratulations boys on this wonderful achievement. Thanks to Jamie for coaching the boys and to Fraser, Chris and John for their support on the day. Also, another special mention to the girls team who watched the Grand Final and cheered the boys on. The atmosphere was amazing.
Also, a special mention to our school for another outstanding sporting achievement. We were one of a few schools across the state who were able to have both their girls and boys teams make the state final. A huge achievement. Very well done.
We wish the boys all the best for the carnival in Melbourne. Go Port Elliot!!
