Sapsasa Year 4/5 Basketball

On Wednesday 12th September we had 2 girls teams and 1 boys team compete in the Year 4/5 Basketball Carnival at Morphett Vale Stadium. All 3 teams had a fantastic day and experience. None of our teams finished in the top 2 of their division, which meant we had no teams play in the Grand Final. But all players and coaches gave their best effort all day and learnt a lot about basketball. Thank you to the adult helpers who assisted with scoring and cheering us on. Thank you to the Year 6/7 coaches – Poppy, Ellie, Estelle, Kody and Hudson - who did a fantastic job at practices and on the day. Thank you again to Anthony and Simon for assisting the coaches on the day.

Yr 4-7 Tennis

On Friday 31st August we had 33 students attend the Year 4-7 Tennis Day at Victor Harbor Courts. The students had a great day and learnt a lot about tennis.

Initially, due to the rain, we were forced to play games and learn skills inside the gym. But once the sun came out we got to have a hit on the Victor Harbor Tennis Club courts.

Thank you to the adult helpers from Tennis SA, Victor Harbor Tennis Club and the high school. Thanks also to Charmayne and Fiona for their help on the day. Without this support the day would not be possible, so thanks again.

Sapsasa Local Athletics Day

We had 25 students participate in our school Athletics team at Victor Primary against the other schools in our District on Wednesday 29th August. We had many place getters and numerous students invited to represent the District at SANTOS stadium in Week 10. Congratulations to all.

As a school we finished overall in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on 2nd place by 2.5 points and 1st place by 9 points. Special mention to Thomas who set the Sapsasa District Record for 13 year old boys 200m, at 29.59 seconds.

Place getters included:

SAPSASA Year 6/7 BASKETBALL CARNIVAL Wednesday 25TH July

We entered a boys and a girls Basketball team in this carnival. The boys team won 4 out of 6 games, finishing 3rd in their pool. The girls won 1 game, drew 1 game and narrowly lost 3 games by less than 4 points, and lost to the eventual winners by 10 points. It was a great day out with 2 very competitive, hard working teams. Thank you to Anthony, Vicki, Tyann and Shanice for coaching these teams. The players are very appreciative that they got the chance to participate in this event and to learn from your knowledge and skills. The students enjoyed the day, conducting themselves with respect and displaying great sportsmanship. Thank you also to the parents for cheering us on and supporting us on the day.

SAPSASA KNOCKOUT NETBALL

On Wednesday 13th June, we played Knock Out Netball at Eastern Fleurieu School.  We played a fantastic team game that reflected our school values however the home side of EFS proved too strong for us and we walked away with a loss.

We started strong only trailing by 3 goals at the conclusion of the first quarter, however the second quarter was our undoing with EFS powering in front with a 10 goal streak.  We pulled ourselves back together well with a commendable group mindset for the final half but the damage had been done.  The girls fought hard and showed immense improvement as the game progressed trying new positions and having fun.

Thanks again to Co-Coach Jodie Edwards for scoring and timekeeping and Trina Doig for giving up endless break times to run practices with the team. Without your help these days and events could not occur. It was also great to see some family spectators and supporters there too. Well done to everyone involved and congratulations on a great effort girls!

Sapsasa Knockout Girls’ and Boys’ Football

The Girls’ football game was played on Thursday 7th June against Reynella East at Reynella East School. The girls tried really hard, tackled intently and put 100% effort in for the whole game. We unfortunately lost the game 4 goal 3 (27 points) to 2 goal 4 (16 points) which means we are now “knocked out” of the competition. Congratulations to the girls and their coaches Archie, Brandon and Thomas for their efforts at practice and on the day. Thanks to Tyann for accompanying us on the bus and to the parents who came and cheered us on.

The Boys’ football game was played on Friday 8th June at Victor Harbor High against Investigator. Our team had dwindled to 17 players before the first bounce, due to injury and absence. The boys tried really hard all day but were outmanned and out run, being defeated by a very experienced opposition. Every boy tried their hardest right until the final siren. We are now “knocked out” of the competition and have no further games for the rest of the year. Thank you to Brett for coaching the team and running practices with the boys, to the parents who watched and supported the students and to Paul Loughead and the students in the AFL program for officiating and organising the football game for us. This continued support from our local High School is greatly appreciated.

Sporting Schools Grants

Trina applied for and received a Sporting Schools Grant for Lacrosse/Sofcrosse coaching, training and equipment. Trina will receive training from the coach to teach these skills to the classes she teaches PE. Kate, being a former Australian Lacrosse player, will be teaching these skills to her PE classes. From this grant the school has received enough equipment necessary to successfully teach these sessions to a whole class of children at a time.
