SAPSASA KNOCKOUT SOCCER

Our first round soccer match was played on Wednesday 20th May at Breakers Oval. We played a very tight defensive game and continued to persist in attack. Half time we were down 1-0. The 2nd half showed our persistence pay off and we scored 4 goals to their 0. Final score was 4-1. Congratulations to the boys, they all played so well. Thanks again to Josh for coaching and to Joel (and Chris) for being our lines referee. Thanks to Greg for his assistance also.

SAPSASA KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL, NETBALL AND SOCCER

All 3 teams drew Encounter Lutheran in our first round matches.

Football and Netball were played on Friday May 1st at 1:30pm at our school. Both teams played really well and have progressed to the next round. The netball won 14 goals to 10. The girls tried so hard, listened well to their coach and continue to improve with every game. The football won 10.6 (66 points) to 0.0 (0 points). The boys played an outstanding game as a team. Their running game, quick handballs and defensive intensity was a joy to watch. Thank you to Annie and Matt for their positive and encouraging coaching and for setting up before the game. Thank you to Brett for helping set up the oval, goal umpiring and scoring, to Peta, Kristin, Nikki and Cheryl for scoring and timekeeping, to Mandy for collecting uniforms and to Karen for umpiring. Without this adult support we could not participate in these events. It was also wonderful to see so many spectators and supporters.

SAPSASA SWIMMING

At the end of last year and in Week 1 this Term, students
born in 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 were offered the
opportunity to try out for a spot in our school SAPSASA
Swimming team. The carnival was held at the Strathalbyn
Swimming Centre on Wednesday 25 February (Week 5).
We had 15 students compete on the day, accompanied
by Kerry Dodd (teacher in charge) and Tara Irvin (parent
volunteer and organiser).
Congratulations to Adam H, Darcy S, Dimity P, Ruby O,
Connor I, Neriah M, Maddison C, Dane U, Jobe H,
Georgia B, Shanice O, Amber S, Molly C and our newest
team members Maggie B and Maya O.
Thanks to Tara and Kerry for organising this opportunity
and to the parents who drove and supported the students
on the day. Without such great adult support the students
would not be able to participate in these extra activities.
We are waiting for the official results, most of our
swimmers achieved personal bests. We should have 4
maybe 5 continuing on to the State Titles on Friday 27
March a special mention to Neriah M who had a clean
sweep of first place in all 4 50m events and Connor I 2nd
behind his great competitor Nichols S.

“On Wednesday 25th February, 15 students travelled to Strathalbyn for the inter school SAPSASA Swimming competition. The students did well in their age groups events and all had big smiles once their heat was complete. The students showed great team and sportsmanship, cheering everyone one when they were swimming.
Congratulations to the students who successfully won their age groups and now have an opportunity to compete at Marion Swimming centre in a few weeks, against other students from around the state.
Neriah and Ruby”

SAPSASA Knockout Events and Basketball

Students were asked to nominate interest to participate in and represent our school in SAPSASA events this year. From this expressed interest we have nominated a boys football, boys soccer and girls netball team in the Knockout competitions.

The Knockout competition is for Year 6/7 students only and is in Term 2.

There is a local football and netball carnival at Encounter Bay Oval in Week 9 (Thursday 26th March) which the football and netball teams will participate in.

Thank you to Matt Smith, Annie Kraft and Josh Peters for volunteering to coach the football, netball and soccer teams again. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

We have nominated a Year 5/6 girls, 5/6 boys, 6/7 girls and 6/7 boys Basketball team to compete in a carnival in early August.

We are in need of 1 more boys’ team coach for Thursday 6th August and 2 girls’ team coaches for Wednesday 5th August. If anyone is available or possibly interested please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks.

We have had a huge amount of students nominate for these teams so trials will be held to select final teams closer to the event. Then we will begin practices and further information will be sent home to
players' families.
